PETALING JAYA: National archery coach Lee Jae-hyung is not one who likes to rest on his laurels.
Instead of just focusing on the Podium Programme archers, the long-serving Korean coach has completed a two-week tour to identify new talents for the country in a bid to add depth in the national back-up squad.
He has conducted selection trials in all states except for Sabah and Sarawak.
“We are searching for new talents to strengthen our back-up squad. Having three men archers in the Podium Programme is not enough,” said Jae-hyung.
“They will be invited for another round of selection in Bukit Jalil next month and only eight men and eight women will be named for the back-up team.”
At the Tokyo Games in July, Malaysia were represented by seasoned campaigner Khairul Anuar Mohamad and debutant Syaqiera Mashayikh in the men and women events but they did not win any medals.
