PORT DICKSON: Six countries have confirmed their participation for the Port Dickson International Youth Archery Fiesta 2017 to be held from Oct 25 to 29 at the Batu 1 Archery Range, near here.
Negeri Sembilan Tourism Board general manager Baharudin Jali said Malaysia’s biggest archery competition, which is being held in Port Dickson for the first time, would feature participants from Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka.
“The event has been organised with a sports tourism concept to attract archery enthusiasts from within and outside the country. A programme like this would definitely bring returns to the tourism industry in Port Dickson while promoting Negeri Sembilan at the international stage” he told reporters at the International Archery Youth Fiesta press conference here, today.
Baharudin said participants from Bangladesh and Pakistan were also interested in joining the event.
Meanwhile, Port Dickson Archery Club chairman Sahak Abdullah said two categories would be contested at the event, namely Recurve Men and Recurve Women, involving 67 teams and 400 archers.
He said the competition was recognised by the World Archery Federation and the National Archery Association of Malaysia (NAAM), and included in the world championships calendar as an international event.
In the individual category, the champion will take home RM1,000, runner-up RM700 and RM500 for third place, while for the team event, winners will take home cash prize of RM1,500, runner-up RM1,000, and third place winner RM700.
