Terengganu won’t waste time preparing their “Robin Hoods” for the next edition.
The next Malaysia Games (Sukma) are two years away, but Terengganu, who dominated archery in the current Sukma, will start preparing for 2026 in two weeks’ time.
Terengganu coach Lutfil Hadi said the state want to ensure that they have quality archers capable of maintaining their Sukma challenge.
The 29-year-old coach said Terengganu have many quality backup archers in line for Sukma 2026.
“The 2026 programme will begin in the next two weeks. In fact, for Sukma Sarawak, they only had a three-day break since 2022.
“Alhamdulillah, there’s positive development for Terengganu archers as for the next Sukma, half of the athletes can still compete.
“So far, we have at least eight backups for Sukma 2022,” said Lutfil who competed in the 2012 Sukma.
At Sukma Sarawak, Terengganu dominated, winning five golds, one silver and one bronze. The Federal Territories finished second with two golds, three silvers, two bronzes. Perak were third (two golds, five bronzes).
Terengganu came out tops in the women’s 50m individual compound, men’s 70m individual recurve, mixed recurve, mixed compound, and men’s compound team events.
Lutfil revealed that the windy environment in Kuala Terengganu helped their archers adapt to the weather changes in Kuching during the Sukma.
