Malaysian men’s recurve team have been a letdown and will come home empty handed from the Archery Asia Cup meet in Bangkok.
The trio of Haziq Kamaruddin, Khairul Anuar Mohd and Mohd Zarif Syahir Zolkepli lost any chance to get a medal when they fell 1-5 to Australia in the shootout for the bronze yesterday.
They were second seeded but lost 2-6 to Kazakhstan in the semi-final on Friday.
Top seeds Russia lived up to their billing and took the gold after Kazakhstan pulled out from the final.
None of the Malaysian men archers reached the last eight in the individual competition earlier.
The men’s team will only have the world qualifiers for Olympics in Berlin to look forward to in June.
They have to finish among the top three in Berlin to if they are to qualify for the team recurve event at the Tokyo Olympics.
